MiWay’s Actuarial department plays an essential role in the business, with our team’s work being at the core of insurance and our offering to clients. Our actuaries contribute to working out the premiums charged to clients, the business’ claims reserve and the capital required to be set aside to protect our business against unforeseen events, amongst other functions.

In addition to the more traditional actuarial work in short-term insurance, MiWay’s actuaries often get involved in other exciting and extraordinary business case prediction models. The team is made up of a relatively small department, which offers all team members an opportunity to get exposure to most areas of the business by engaging a range of stakeholders within the business - from senior management to software developers, right through to claims investigators. MiWay provides an environment where you can keep expanding your toolbox of skills as well as your knowledge.

Further your studies with MiWay:
MiWay is offering bursaries to 3rd year actuarial students looking to pursue their honors degree in 2024. As a MiWay Actuarial bursary recipient, the support you can expect to receive will cover your tuition for the 2024 academic year as well as career and networking opportunities, amongst other things.

Work at MiWay:
MiWay’s Actuaries work in an environment with lots of scope for modelling and opportunities to craft creative insurance solutions. We use SQL to implement our own models on our policy administration system, which enables us to:

• Have direct control of development to ensure that what is implemented is exactly as intended
• Have less dependency on other parties, and thus able to complete projects faster
